The aim of this work is to analyze Ortega y Gasset’s doctrine about translation. Special consideration is given here to his idea of what a good translation must be. Following this analysis, we conclude that the kind of translation proposed by Ortega y Gasset responds to his conception of language as a reflection of one’s worldwiew, a notion that goes back to Wilhelm von Humboldt, the first philosopher to point out the relationship existing between language, on the one hand, and thought and culture, on the other.
