Abstract

This article was originally presented as a lecture at the seminar "Emotions and Literature" held by professorAlicia Borinsky ofBoston University. Using as point of departure several novels by Marcela Serrano as well as Cartas para Tomás by Malucha Pinto, I argue that one of the possible reasons for the extensive readership of these works is the fact that they not only include the representation of emotions in their narrative but also aim to reach the emotions of their readers, seeking more the readers' emotional engagement than their critical distance.
